Leading Out Loud is the theme of a workshop scheduled for Monday, October 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Comprehensive Healthcare, 402 S. 4th Avenue, Yakima WA 98902. Individuals with a mental health condition, family members and the community are invited to participate in the program led by Beth Gould of Greater Vision Life Coaching. The workshop is free of charge and lunch will be served. This project is made possible by a grant from the Yakima Valley Community Foundation. The NAMI Family to Family Class begins Thursday, October 4 and will meet weekly until December 13, from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. This course is for family members and caregivers of those affected by a mental health condition. The course outline includes information about various mental illnesses, treatment options including medications, communication and coping skills, crisis intervention, recovery and advocacy. Join NAMI Yakima on Wednesday ,August 22, at 5 p.m. at Comprehensive Healthcare Auditorium for our Annual Meeting. We will be voting on By-laws changes that will complete our NAMI affiliation. We will also vote for the FY 2018-19 budget, and for officers, Vice-President and Treasurer. There’ll be food and fun as well as important business to conduct. All members are urged to attend.

A Community Forum, Navigating a Mental Health Crisis, will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church, 1604 West Yakima Avenue, Yakima WA. A panel of service providers and crisis responders will discuss questions such as, How to prepare for a crisis, What to do during and following a crisis, and What should be included in a crisis plan. The community is invited to this free event. Refreshments will be served.
Carrie Huie Pascua will provide training on Cross Cultural Communication at the quarterly dinner meeting of the NAMI teachers and facilitators, scheduled for 6:00 p.m., June 18, 2018 at the Comprehensive Healthcare Auditorium. Deanna Roy will provide an update on NAMI programs and the program schedule for Summer and Fall 2018 will be developed. All certified teachers/facilitators are urged to attend.

The NAMI Yakima Advocacy Committee will meet March 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Comprehensive Healthcare, Room B-210. The agenda will include follow-up on legislation supported at NAMI Lobby Day. Several bills have passed both houses and will go to the Governor for signature. They include House Bill 1377 the Student Mental Health Bill, HB 1783 regarding Legal Financial Obligations and SB 6491 Increasing Availability of Assisted Outpatient Treatment.
